Sustaining Soil Fertility and Yield by Inductive cum Targeted Yield Model-based Fertilizer Prescriptions for Finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.) in Alfisols of Tamil Nadu, Southern India

Background: Finger millet cultivation in Alfisols (Typic rhodustalf, Palaviduthi soil series) demands an optimal integrated plant nutrient supply to achieve desired yields. In order develop the test crop response fertilizer and farm yard manure (FYM) through nutrition system (STCR-IPNS) terms of uptake, yield pre-sowing STVs, a field investigation on [Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn.] was conducted at farmer’s Thoppupatti village, Dindigul district, Southern Agro-climatic zone Tamil Nadu, India during December 2021-August 2022. Methods: By adopting Inductive cum Targeted Yield Model before millet, artificial fertility gradient created by application graded levels NPK fertilizers with fodder sorghum as crop. Result: The basic data viz., N, P K nutrients for producing 1 tonne finger grain were 48 kg, 23 kg 44 kg; contributed 14.86%, 19.18% 18.95%; 44.16%, 32.79% 59.75% farmyard 28.47%, 11.77% 33.78%, respectively. Fertilizer prescription equations ready reckoners operational range results intended target under alone IPNS (NPK + FYM) produced using data.
